Pauline Boty, "What we need now to discover in the social realm is the moral equivalent of war; something heroic that will speak to man as universally as war does, and yet will be as compatible with their spiritual selves as war has proved to be incomparable."--William James, 1902. August 22, 2003:

The neurotically violent slogans of the counter-demonstrators at this year's antiwar rallies.

Fry Mumia!
Nuke Iraq!
Give war a chance!

These are like parodies of peasant consciousness invented in Hollywood. You wouldn't believe them, except you saw them yourself.

What culture do these comment on? (The culture of imperial corruption.) What psychology do they express? (The psychology of great power chauvinism.) What future do they predict? (Death.)
