Another lifetime. A different universe.

Drive through a former neighborhood. Lived there three years. After the worst of it, before it was better.

Moving there was itself a milestone toward recovery. But recovery didn't happen there.

A different person.

It's like an episode of Star Trek. You walk through the wrong door and find yourself in an alternate universe. It looks the same, the people look the same, but they're not, they're different, and the differences are sometimes subtle, sometimes glaring. So that you spend the whole of your days searching for the door back.

Which of these restaurants have you seen? There are favorites of mine here which I know you would love.

Ah excuse me. Oh will you excuse me? I'm just tryin' to find the door. Has anybody seen the door? Please. "Have you seen the door?" "I ain't seen the door." Where's 'at confounded door?
