January 9, 2006:

We drove all over Southern California searching for red high tops.

"Who'd ever want red high tops?," said the snotty blonde sales clerk at one trendy thrift store on Melrose.

"I would!" I said. Two years later there was the colored Converse craze. I've always been a trend setter.

We ended up with one pair of black ones and one pair of white ones. Since we wore the same size shoe, we split the two pairs, each of us wearing one black and one white.
