When the truth, I think, lies closer to these:
- She fell into a dark period in life which forced her
to focus on her own concerns. This is outside the selfish definition of
friendship at the basis of all these relationships: that only one of us is
allowed concerns
- The well was dry: there was nothing left to siphon from her
- She was exerting a measure of independence, that is, was behaving intolerably
These could be entirely wrong. I don't care. Whatever the basis, it was a reprehensible thing to do.
