A note came from on high: literally, the upper floors of one nearby dorm, saying, Many of us would join your demonstration if there weren't people among you who describe themselves as "Communists". We feel this association could be detrimental to our future careers. It was signed by the local Young Democrats club.

This is the age-old core of American Liberalism. Hearts in the right place, crippled by profound lack of spine.
