Defensiveness.

"Is that yours?" From over one shoulder. "Or is it for sale?"

The right answer would be, in a friendly voice, "Nope, it's mine."
The answer I gave, in a back-the-fuck-off voice, was "It's mine."

One could learn to be nicer when surprised.
