This isn't Idaho. White desert with western bluffs: this New Mexico, the Alamogordo plain north of White Sands, not far from the badlands. Look: across the street, a sprawling bauxite factory. Someone ladles vegetables onto your paper plate, but you ignore them, thinking, it's not that long a drive from here.
