September 3, 2004. Day hike, Montreal, Canada.
Fun day exploring on foot. Through the old city and along the riverbank in the early morning, then across town, past McGill University, and up to the lovely urban Parc Mont-Royal.
My favorite was the old city. 17th and 18th century stone buildings on either side of narrow cobblestone streets. There's an interesting feeling of anachronism in the juxtaposition of very old hand-made stone with very new robot-made automobiles. The stone is uneven, earth-colored, natural; the cars are black, smooth, technological.
I was unhappy with the morning photos, so I went back toward sunset to take some more. These are from the later group. Nothing spectacular but I do like the sense of continuity with something old which they imply, to my eye anyway.
