September 3, 2002:

Parting gifts. We gave each other earrings, and she also gave me a lock of her golden hair.

I should never have done this. I moved away, thinking, wrongly, that love conquers all. We'd go through a difficult time apart, but, our love was so strong we'd survive any hardship, especially one we knew would be temporary.

A few weeks later she came to visit. Rode a Greyhound bus fifteen hours. We had just the weekend. I spent five or six hours a day reading, while she had to wait. It was alright to do this, because this period of effort was temporary, and anyway in the end love conquers all.

O Mr. Peabody! Take me with you in the Wayback Machine. Let me undo the damage I've done.

Verse:
It was twenty years ago today
Sgt. Pepper taught the band to play.

Chorus:
We're Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band.
