Conventional travel writing focuses on logistics. How to get there, where to stay, what to eat.

My interest is more subjective. I want to experiment with the narrative techniques I've developed in my Workbook writing and other fiction to try to capture the emotion of the place. What is it about a place which makes us respond in the way we do? Is it the quality of the light? The smell, the temperature? The clarity of the air at night, the brightness of the stars? The peoples' accents, their friendliness, the way they make their livings? Is there a way to integrate photography and text to convey the richness of the experience?
