The film brings the books' racism into stark and contradictory relief. Contradictory: on the one hand the alliance of many races, hitherto hostile, to meet the emergency fate confronts them with. On the other hand the standard imperialist nightmare in which bands of light-skinned brothers-in-arms, typically surrounded, fend-off and ultimately annihilate enormous hordes of dark-skinned subhumans whose only purpose is hate and whose only destiny is death. It is, remarkably and unmistakably, very much like the invasion of Iraq.
