I felt so alone there. Yet I also felt I'd found the one place where I belonged.

Part and parcel of our peculiar shared incompetence. We felt we were us against the world, so that in part we made it so.

Today I feel no kinship with that place, or the majority of those people. I was not yet the person I am today.
