Her Protagorean insistence on the reality of surfaces was an artifact of narcissistic personality disorder. It's not any old perception which matters. It's her perception. Where the only reality with substance extends by definition only as far the end of her own nose.
Her sexist insistence that women and men are distinct species follows from the same origin. She could be friends with women because they look more like her. Men display too many differences. Where one creature has whiskers and another doesn't, communication is not even imaginable.
