There's something preposterously narcissistic in that label. "Socially inept". Applied to the most gregarious, voluble, outgoing individual in the history of the universe. Where the missing insight was that he didn't choose to be social with them.
His ex used that insult to be hurtful. "Everyone thinks you're socially inept." Where the reality was that he didn't particularly care for the circle who considered themselves to be "everyone".
The greater mystery is why his ex chose to consider that circle important. Where their acceptance became her criterion of success.
