August 13, 2021:

Clouds are different in Southern California. They're Pacific clouds. Scattered, mostly. Squalls, so that there's still sky, and still light, even when it rains.

In Northern California they're Alaskan clouds, solid cold banks. Or Hawaiian: the "Pineapple Express" of warm atmospheric rivers which melt Sierran snows and cause havoc at lower altitudes.

In Southern California even the clouds are happier.
