The Live at the Greek record partly works. In a different way.
Robinson's voice doesn't sound strained, or aged, as Plant's did by the end. There's some vitality there. And it sounds like they're having fun.
But, the sound is too full for Zeppelin songs. Three guitars. Relentless. Exhausting. A major part of Zeppelin's Zeppness was the space between instruments. Negative space as art. Instrumental space is not the vibe here.
And, it's very heavily compressed. Squashed mix of its era, the Loudness Wars. It's not a Zep mix from earlier time. Those had a certain organicism: breath of dynamics and instruments with color.
Is there synesthesia? Not this time. The record has no color at all.
