Exile on Main Street: another that sounds like its cover.
Not quite synesthesia. Something more like aesthetic correspondence.
Dark gray. Fragmented: murky. Contrasting imagery with ripped edges. Carnival freaks, musicians in street settings, slips of torn notepaper with lyrics. Hands. Newspaper headlines, unknown faces. Grainy: these are in fact frames from Super-8 movie film, cropped and enlarged. Cut-ups, like certain of the lyrics. Collage. Robert Frank.
Not quite black. Not quite gray. Something between.
Exactly as the music on the vinyl.
